Neil Olshey keeps the hits coming! The Portland Trail Blazers have traded away Maurice Harkless and Meyers Leonard to the Miami Heat for Hassan Whiteside. The moves gives the Blazers their starting center until Jusuf Nurkic returns and it frees up space for Rodney Hood to take the reigns as the starting small forward.
This move also signals the end of Enes Kanter’s run in Portland.
In Whiteside the Blazers get a center who 13.4 points and 11.8 rebounds for his career. When he has his head in the game Whiteside is one of the better interior defenders in all of the NBA. Unfortunately, Whiteside rarely has his head in the game and was benched at the end of last year in favor of Bam Adebayo.
Here’s to hoping that a change of scenery will do Whiteside some good, but I have some doubts. If Dwayne Wade, Erik Spoelstra, and Pat Riley couldn’t get Whiteside a strong work ethic how are Damian Lillard and Terry Stotts going to fare?
The Blazers did for sure fill a much needed hole and we’ll have to wait until the middle of October to see how this plays out.
Word on the street is the Blazers are still not done.
