Days after the United States places 7th in the FIBA World Cup, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has committed to playing in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Lillard made his interest known in an interview with James McKern of news.com.au in Australia while on a trip to Sydney as Adidas’ Global Ambassador.
“I plan on being a part of that. I plan on playing,” Lillard said exclusively to news.com.au.
When asked about adding an Olympic medal to his trophy cabinet, Lillard was emphatic: “Definitely”.
There was a call for more stars to commit early for the 2020 games after what many considered a failure at the World Cup in China. “There has not been any disappointment around USA Basketball in a while,” USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo told SI.com. “This will bother me until the 2020 Olympics.”
Will CJ McCollum also get a look?
