It was announced today that the Portland Trail Blazers will be giving their star point guard, Damian Lillard, a new max contract when the NBA announces the All-NBA teams in the next couple of days. The deal would add an extra four years to his current deal and keep Lillard in Portland for the next six seasons.
The deal is reportedly worth an extra $191 million over the last four seasons of his deal. Or an average of $47.75 million a year.
Lillard is a four-time All-Star and is expected to be second All-NBA in the coming days. He averaged 25.8 ppg and just shy of seven assists a night. He helped guide the Blazers to their deepest playoff run in two decades. Unfortunately, their season was cut short after being swept by the Golden State Warriors yesterday in the Western Conference Finals.
Many say the deal positions the Blazers to be a Western powerhouse for years to come.
