Russell Wilson came out and did some amazing Russell Wilson things. Best of all, he threw a touchdown pass to Chris Carson with under three minutes remaining to lead the Seahawks to a 30-29 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
Wilson was spectacular for the entire game, flirting with a perfect game all night. He finished 17 for 23, with 268 yards and four touchdowns. He now has 12 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions on the year. In the first quarter, down 6-0, Wilson threw an amazing dime to Tyler Lockett in the back of the end zone and I’m not sure how Lockett had the concentration to keep his feet down, but he did. It was an amazing throw and an unbelievable catch.
The next time the Seahawks got the ball, Wilson hit Will Dissly on a couple of amazing throws that led to a forty-yard touchdown pass to D.K. Metcalf. The Seahawks were up 14-6 at this point and looking to run away with it. The Seahawks came up with a big stop from the defense and the offense was driving once again. They had fourth and 1 just outside the red zone. Pete Carroll decided not to go for it and Jason Myers missed a field goal.
The Seahawks took a 14-13 lead into the half.
Goff came back and carved up the Seahawks defense, allowing Todd Gurley to walk into the end zone to give the Rams the lead back.
Wilson led the Seahawks down the field and hit the forgotten David Moore for his third touchdown of the game. But the Rams came back and took the lead again on another Gurley touchdown run, but the Rams failed on the two-point conversion. The Rams led 26-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Wilson led the Seahawks down the field only to sputter at the end of the drive. Myers hit a 42-yard field goal to cut the lead down to 26-24.
On the next drive, Carson dominated. Wilson finished it off with a five-yard pass to Carson, who bobbled it before hauling it and caused collective heart attacks across the northwest, to take a 30-29 lead after the two-point conversion failed.
On the next drive, Tedric Thompson picked off Goff an on amazing catch on third down that seemingly and should have ended the game. But the Seahawks got too cute on a third-down call, almost fumbled, and were forced to punt back to the Rams with just under two minutes left.
Goff led the Rams down the field and it looked like certain death for Seattle. However, the usually dependable Greg Zuerlein missed a game-winning kick with 11 seconds left. Wilson took a knee and the Seahawks escaped to move to 4-1 on the year and are starting to emerge as a clear favorite in the NFC.
Chris Carson had 118 yards rushing and the receiving touchdown. Dissly led the Seahawks with 81 receiving yards.
The Seahawks have 10 days off before they travel to Cleveland to take on Baker Mayfield and the Browns.
Notes: The Seahawks inducted long time owner and the man who saved football in Seattle, Paul Allen, into the Ring of Honor tonight. I think they need to take the next step and name the stadium after him.
